Hi friends!! Hope you’re having a fabulous week! I’m slightly off the grid right now, catching my breath and soaking in some calm. Somehow, these moments of intentional pause always make me sentimental. This week, I’ve been thinking about my wedding season whirlwind not too long ago…
When I was sitting with Greer the other day, we started reminiscing and made a list of our favorite keepsakes from our bridal era. (Our weddings were four months apart.) Our thought: Get ‘em down while they’re still fresh!
So here’s a compilation of everything we wore, bought, borrowed, and now keep in our bridal trunks.
Greer bought these for my bachelorette party, and they were a huge hit. I still have one left that I don’t want to fill because I don’t want to take it in to be developed. Even though I know I can get it back. I just love it and want to keep it on my shelf forever as a reminder.
From Greer: I found everything fun for Hailee’s bachelorette by digging on Etsy. It’s such a good place to start. Not too expensive. You can customize everything to fit the person or theme. Our theme was ‘Margs and Matrimony’, because we were in Cabo, Hailee’s favorite drink is a margarita, and of course, we had Angel in bulk on arrival. With Hailee being our disposable camera queen, I knew disposable cameras needed to be an element, and this was a fun way to keep them cohesive with the theme. Also, fun fact, at Hailee’s wedding, I was in charge of filling disposable cameras, and she did the same at mine. They’ve kind of become our thing.
Also, disposables were a fun way to keep the ‘no phones’ thing in effect. You’re still getting great photos without everyone having their phones out.
Cult Gaia Adilia Top & Sonoma Skirt
I loved this outfit! I wore it the first night of my bachelorette. The theme was “Wedding bells and seashells.” I wore white, and everyone else was in pastels, looking gorgeous.
From Greer: Hailee and I both did tropical bachelorettes and honeymoons, so shopping was like two birds with one stone—we got to reuse bachelorette stuff on our honeymoons, which worked out because our husbands didn’t see us at our bachelorettes.
I wore this Cult Gaia dress on night two of my bachelorette party. The theme was “Match made in heaven,” and we all wore white and drank Angel, obviously.
Reformation Rylie Cotton Sweater Tank
This was my travel top! I wore it with white jeans on my way to Cabo.
Donni The Linen Drawstring Pant
From Greer: It became a running joke on my bachelorette that I had so many outfits because I was just so excited to be on my bachelorette. I overpacked, like beyond. I changed my outfit like four times a day; it became a thing when I came out in a different outfit, everyone would clap. Like I’d come out in these, and someone would say, “Give it up for her breakfast pants!” But I do love these so much for lounging around.
Tkees Lily Nudes in Cocobutter
My favorite flip-flops, for vacation or otherwise. They go with everything.
From Greer: I wore this on my honeymoon! Part of me thought I’d be over dressing up cute by the time I got to Hawaii, but I’m so glad I kept a few things that were new and fun. I still wanted to enjoy the final bridal moments, and obviously, you’re just feeling joyful and loved-up on your honeymoon! I rewore pieces from my bachelorette, but brought a few new things, and this was one of them.
Same Ruffle Hem Tank Top & Maxi Skirt
I wore this by the pool on my wedding weekend. And bopping around the hotel. It wasn’t a specific look for anything in particular, just part of what I (too) overpacked.
Eugenia Kim Mirabel Satin Bow Sunhat
From Greer: I bought this for my bachelorette and had my big dramatic moment with it, and then I brought it for Hailee to wear on her wedding weekend. It was the Sisterhood of the Traveling Hat.
Staud Maya Crocheted Cotton-Blend Mini Dress
From Greer: I wore this on my bach! We had a boat day, and I wore this — I took the slip out from underneath— with a blue suit and my big hat, above.
A little customized thank you to everyone who came to the bachelorette! I love them (the thank you notes, and my girlfriends!)
From Greer: I wore these slippers my entire wedding weekend in my room and getting ready!
Petite Keep Grand Bridal Trunk
I love these!! I was gifted two, and they’re full of our favorite things from wedding weekend: bar napkins, items from our welcome bags, tons of Polaroids.
This is the best! Greer’s mom gave one to her, and then Greer gave one to me when I got engaged. It’s such a good gift! I actually forgot mine on my wedding weekend, and Greer brought hers for me to borrow. Don’t know what I’d do without her!
Eberjey Inez Washable Silk Long PJ Set
These were getting-ready PJs at Greer’s wedding. So cute. I put mine on immediately.
From Greer: Yes! Half were in navy and half were in green. Loved!
We have many more picks in our ‘brides’ tab on ShopMy. Greer and I had too much fun putting it together, and we’ll be adding more finds in the coming weeks!
Also, your responses to last week’s journal prompt blew me away...
What’s one thing that keeps you tethered to the planet?
For me, it is the changing leaves in the fall. I often and easily walk around absorbed in my own thoughts. But something about a gorgeous color display on a maple will always stop me dead in my tracks. It is one of the few things that I can say really and truly inspires feelings of awe (such an underrated emotion!). -Caitlin
Things that keep me tethered to the planet are my family recipe cards. I have ones that are in the handwriting of my great-grandmother, grandmas, grandpa, mom, aunts, etc. They are stained and smudged and worn from the years and years of use. They are my tether and reminder of how my family shows love, over and over again, with each preparation of the dish in question. They're all framed on my kitchen walls. -Stephanie
Something that keeps me tethered to the planet is my shower.. I don’t know if this sounds odd, but there’s something about showering that is just so relaxing and often restorative for me. Whenever I’m having a bad day, I always like to take a shower and imagine any negativity or bad vibes going down the drain- it’s almost like a reset. And I always feel calmer and more centered after a shower, which I love. -Hannah
I think what tethers me to the planet most is the smell of a book. Whether it's new or recycled, the scent of book pages provides so much comfort (one of my favorite feelings in the world), similar to the smell of cookies in the oven, where you just feel at home and cozy and comfortable. -Paulina
One thing that keeps me tethered? Honestly, I think I’ll say having a great support system. Some things don’t always go as planned, and I need to cope with it sometimes. So it always helps when I can talk with my family or my friends about how to process it. I usually feel a lot better in the end, and I’m not nearly as anxious about it. Feels amazing. -Jack
What keeps me tethered to the planet: writing with a mug of warm (or sometimes cold) caramel latte macchiato. It’s my comfort zone, even when I think what I write is nonsense. So thank you for the reminder that sometimes, a warm beverage and a lovely scent are all I need. -Mégane
What a great issue! For the prompt.. something that keeps me tethered to the planet is immediately taking a step outside in the morning, especially as the weather is getting colder, to take in the start of the day and wake up with fresh air. -Myra
I honestly feel so much joy to be able to live in a world and region that gets to experience all four seasons so beautifully. To quote Anne of Green Gables: "I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” -Brittany
TO READ: Observations from people watching. Written by an artist who paints weddings.
TO EAT: BS reader Kristen sent in this banana bread recipe after reading my Toward/Away list last week. Apparently, her 3-year-old requests it for his birthday cake, and she always adds mini chocolate chips :)
TO SHOP: An Annie Leibovitz Photo Print T-Shirt.
TO REMEMBER: The incredible, formidable Diane Keaton. She will always be my style icon.
Love,
Hailee (Beau)
