Hi and happy first Friday of September!!
Off the bat, I want to tell you about an exciting new development in the expanding world of BS: The Beau Society Shop! Over the past year of writing these letters, I’ve talked about shopping here and there — the lip liner I love and my go-to cookbooks. All my favorite things have only existed in these letters…until now!
Over the past month, we’ve been working with the incredible team at ShopMy to build out a BS storefront. It functions like any other shopping website, but I wanted it to live on ShopMy because a) the interface is simple and clean, and b) it’s actually where I do a lot of my shopping. I love the concept of being able to scroll through a beautiful, tight curation made by someone I trust (or whose taste I love).
On my storefront, you’ll find The Beau Society Shop, which includes all our shoppable newsletters from the past year and the exact products I reference in each one. I’ll be updating The Shop in real time with new picks as I’m building out these issues.
For example, this week, I’ve been shopping for fall, which in my life, also happens to be football season. This is my favorite time of the year: The air is crispy, the leaves change color, and I completely fall in love with the coziness of East Coast living. In preparation for the shift into colder weather, I’m saving soup recipes and trolling eBay for vintage crewnecks that I can throw on as an extra layer for all the night games we have this season.
I get a ton of questions about my game-day fits, so this feels like as good a time as any to tell you about my thought process there. On game days, I usually keep it to jeans, a t-shirt, and a hat. That’s my go-to formula; however, I have a lot of fun leaning into my vintage collection (which has turned into a real treasure trove in our basement), finding special pieces to pull out for the pure celebration that is a Sunday at Highmark Stadium.
Fashion is so personal, but these are the three things I consider when getting dressed to watch my husband play:
Make sure it’s functional. If I’m going to a football game, often in the freezing temperatures (California girl, don’t forget), warmth is a big priority. That means layers. A typical outfit might include a turtleneck bodysuit under a big vintage Bills sweatshirt, a comfy pair of jeans, high socks, sneakers, and a beanie.
Lead with vintage. I usually wear a vintage Bills hat, jacket, shirt, or crewneck. I get 90% of my vintage finds from my favorite store in Buffalo, and 10% from eBay. Once I have a great vintage piece(s), it’s just a matter of filling in the basics (more on those, below).
Does it feel like me? We’ve talked about this in past issues, but my philosophy on styling is that when you’re wearing something you feel good in, you look great. It’s as simple as that. I get inspired by what other people are wearing, of course. But ultimately, I always come back to: Wear what feels cool to you.
I put together a little guide to lend some inspo for game day (or just your average Friday in the fall if you’re into wearing red and blue).
TO MAKE: So many of you asked for the orzo recipe from last week’s issue (glad to know we’re all big orzo fans!). I got the original recipe here, but I’ve made it so many times that I don’t need to reference it anymore.
TO TRY: A hot brush. I just got this one and it’s amazing! The only other hot tool I use is my Dyson, and this is a nice alternative because it’s silent, no blow-dryer noise.
TO READ: This female F1 driver is breaking the glass ceiling. Bad ass.
TO DISCOVER: Tea-scented erasers. Charming!

Highlighting your comments on the previous week’s issue. Today, we hear Leighton’s response to End of summer, A-Z.
“I love the idea of the A-Z!! It forces you to sit down and think about the things that are important to ~you~ instead of trying to curate what you think people want to see. As someone who works in marketing and social media, I’m constantly thinking about how someone else will perceive what’s put out there. This summer, I have made a conscious effort to post or write about the things that I love, not just what I think will get the most engagement. This idea is so creative because you also have to consider how to fill up the list — it’s like a little puzzle. Anyways, it’s probably not that serious, but I appreciate the selection and attention to detail. Xoxo!” -Leighton
