Hi everyone! Happy Friday! Before we dive in, I have to give a birthday shoutout to someone very special: my mom! This woman is my biggest supporter, my first call, not to mention one of Beau Society’s most dedicated readers (if you remember from our first issue, she invented our tagline, “This is BS”). Mom, your love and unwavering belief in me mean the world. Wishing you the happiest day — you deserve it and more! I love you!

Okay, onward to a fun issue today: I’ll answer some of your questions! It’s a mixed bag (my favorite), ranging from confidence and anxiety (how to up the former and release the latter) to music, movies, and…math(?). Go with me here and as always, let me know what sticks.

What do you do with the photos from your disposable camera? -Fer

I frame them! Most of the framed photos around my house are from my disposables. I love taking a camera with me throughout the month and filling it with no idea how the pictures will turn out — I’m always pleasantly surprised! Even if a photo is too grainy or dark, it’s cool how it captures a memory. One of my favorite things I've ever gotten myself is a Canon photo printer; the quality is damn near professional. I get frames at Home Goods. Also, Michael Aram frames are so gorgeous. They're on the expensive side, but look at this!

What’s your advice to girls who want to be more confident? -Shelly

I wish there was a short answer to this question. Honestly…there kind of is. Sometimes, we overthink it. Personally, I wish I had that perspective sooner.

What do you have in common with Emily Dickinson? -Sarah

Maybe it’s that we’re both introverts. But, no. Through filming Dickinson I learned that Emily loved to share herself with people — whether through her writing, the food she made, or whatever weird project she had going on. I find that we have that in common. As much as she loved to be alone, she loved being with her people.

What's a character you'd love to play? -Justine

I always think about what Morgan Freeman said when asked this exact question. His answer was, "The next one." The dream role or character is always the next one.

Why did you decide to start Beau Society? -Tatum

I wanted to create a space to have any and all types of conversations, from Emily Dickinson to anxiety.

How do you deal with anxiety? -Monica

I let it eat me alive. I’m kidding! This is a bigger conversation, but I think there's a lot around anxiety. I find I often say things like, "My anxiety is through the roof." I don't know when or where I started saying that, I just know I use it, a lot. At this point in my life, I have a better understanding of what anxiety is and what it feels like in my body. I feel it from time to time, but I don't think I feel it as often as I say I do. Sometimes it’s actually something else, like stress or tiredness. But my way of dealing with anxiety or stress or overwhelm is the same: I take a step away from whatever is making me feel that way, sit, and do nothing. There's a lot of pressure around doing something when you feel this way but you can also do nothing. You can curl up with your favorite blanket and not talk to anyone for ten minutes. Take a gentle pause.

Should I follow my dreams or what's "realistic"? -Vanessa

I ask myself the same thing every day. And somehow, I'm doing both. Your dreams become realistic as you follow them.

If you weren't in this industry, what would you be? -Caila

When I was young, I used to say I wanted to be a ventriloquist(?). But now I think fashion would be my answer. Styling and design?

Songs on repeat lately? -Maëly

[Pulls out phone to check.] So, my most recent is SOS Deluxe: Lana, always. “Denial is A River” by Doechii is up there too.

Have you ever kept anything from a movie set? -Noah

Some actors have it figured out, they get it written into their contracts that they get to keep their hero costume. I mean, I wish I still had the coat, hat, and boots from True Grit as a keepsake. Funny enough, some of the clothes I wore in Edge of Seventeen were my own. I can’t believe I’m admitting that. But I had a shirt that said 'Too Busy Doing Nothing’ that felt so very Nadine. I think I wore my own black hightops, too. Oh, but the sweatshirt — I wore this The Big Lebowski hoodie that says 'Abide' — I would still wear that today if I had it.

What was your favorite subject in school? -Adriana

I really enjoyed math. Well, the problem-solving aspect. The thing about me and math is that I could find the answer, but never in the way that was taught…and eventually, I ran out of ways to find the answer. But I had my favorite teachers. Being in a classroom wasn't something that worked for me, which is why I started homeschooling. However, I had teachers I loved — and I still get Christmas cards from them!

How does your skincare change with filming? Does it? -Abbigale

The short answer is it definitely changes. For example, in Sinners, we're shooting in New Orleans in the summer. The humidity was at an all-time high. We were wearing the craziest, long-wearing, long-lasting, smudge-proof makeup. If my skincare routine didn't change for that, I'd probably still have makeup on my skin! I use a great cleanser and did a double, sometimes triple cleanse.

What's one thing you've done that you'd encourage everyone to try? -Caroline

Travel alone. It forces an independence. There's no denying that you’ll run into awkward or uncomfortable moments when you're used to having people around you and you're alone. It could be eating out alone, flying alone, or taking a long drive by yourself. I think there's something so empowering about it.

Favorite hobbies? -Grace

Writing, photography, organizing (is that a hobby?), design.

What artist did you have the most fun collaborating with? -Cate

Probably Andy. Anderson Paak. The way that whole collaboration with “Coast” came together was so organic and natural and honestly funny. There isn't anything that has to do with Anderson that isn't going to bring a smile to your face. It started with the two of us in the studio, then a few friends came by, then more friends came by, and it was a big ol' hangout. He’d go into a corner for 15 minutes, write an incredible verse, come back, and record it — with all of us in there, mind you. He's just such a natural. He’s so charismatic. He's a good dude, and so stupidly talented. I could go on.

Favorite thing about filming in New Orleans? -Robbie

Before filming Sinners, the last time I spent a great length of time in New Orleans, I was so young that I couldn't appreciate how special the city is. For everything it's known for: music, food, people, ambiance, energy…its history! It’s such a cool place.

If you could go back to one character you played, who would it be and why? -Mia

Mary. When you see, you'll understand why.

We’ll cut it there…until next time. This was a JOY. Before I sign off let’s get into a few more things I’ve uncovered for you this week…

TO WATCH: Sing, Sing. If you haven’t seen it, make it a priority. Coleman Domingo is a force.

TO COOK: Lazy Bolognese”

TO ASK YOURSELF: What would make you cry from regret on your 85th birthday

TO SHOP: Reformation swim! How good is this one piece?

TO READ: Why introverts should (sometimes) act like extroverts.

TO TAKE WITH YOU: “Joy is when you let special moments elevate your experience without clinging or wanting what you enjoy to last forever.” -Yung Pueblo

Love,

Hailee (Beau)

Highlighting your comments on the previous week’s issue. Today, we hear Hannah’s response to 11 wellness habits I’m trying this spring.

“These are truly the highlight of my week! I wanted to share that this past week I got my hair cut above my shoulders for the first time ever (thanks to your inspiration) and it has been such an amazing vibe for spring, and totally transformational! So thank you so much for continuing to talk about your short hair, I'm now obsessed with mine. I also wanted to mention an idea for a fun spring activity: Start a flower garden or vegetable garden! I know not everyone has the time or space for that, but it's something fun that I'm hoping to try this year for the first time. Sending good vibes! -Hannah (Wareham, Massachusetts)
