I’m engaged!! All the happy tears have just barely dried. Whenever we tell the story, look back at photos, or even say “We’re engaged” or “We’re getting married,” I start crying. While I can’t wait to tell you more about the day and things we’re planning, I’m not ready quite yet. I have to hold this close for a little while longer.
But I’ll tell you that my fiancé(!) planned the most magical day of my life – and made the whole thing a complete surprise (not easy!). I’ve mentioned him a few times in past issues, but this week, I thought it would be fun to introduce you to my FIANCÉ, Mr. Josh Allen, officially!
Josh has been the biggest Beau Society supporter since before day 1 and was a real sport when I sat him down to answer 17 random (+ some proposal-related) questions for this letter…
1. When you proposed to me did you realize that the next Beau Society issue was number 17??
Yeah, I knew it was coming up! It was all an elaborate ruse…
2. Okay first, tell the people where you’re from.
I grew up in the middle of nowhere in central California, in a town called Firebaugh, on a farm.
3. What was your first car? And what’s your dream car?
I drove my grandmother's 2003 Cadillac Escalade in high school. And you know my dream car, it’s a Singer Porsche or an Aston Martin Valour.
4. Who was your role model when you were 17? And who’s your role model now? When I was 17, my role model was my dad, and that hasn’t changed. The way he carries himself, and the way he always puts his family before himself, are two things I really admire.
5. Give me your best dad joke.
What did the ocean say to the beach? Nothing, it just waved!
6. Can you please explain ‘onside kick’ in 11 words or less?
Losing team has to kick ball 10 yards to recover.
H: Not counting this as a question but hold on…so they kick it to recover it themselves?
J: Yes.
H: And what if they don’t?
J: Then they don’t get the ball, and they’ll probably lose the game.
H: Okay, thank you, back to questions!
7. If you weren’t a professional football player, what would you be?
Sports not included? I’d probably be an accountant. I love math. Accounting was my favorite class in college. I ended up majoring in social science, but fixing balance sheets was my favorite thing to do.
8. Tell me something you’re embarrassingly bad at.
I’m terrible at drawing.
That was a trick question you’re literally good at everything:
9. Can you give me an acronym for Hailee
Hot
Angelic
Irresistible
Loving
Energetic
Ever-lasting Lover
10. I’m screaming. You love movies, what’s one you never get tired of watching?
The Other Guys. Or True Grit.
11. Do you remember the first meal we cooked together?
Oooo.. pizza? You made your spinach artichoke mozzarella and I made a pepperoni mushroom bacon pizza. We should do that again.
12. What was the last fun thing you did?
Got on a knee for my girlfriend who is now my fiancée.
13. What is the funniest/craziest thing that happened on the day we got engaged(!)?The funniest thing was that we woke up and were getting ready for brunch and you jumped on the bed and said “Can we get married already?!? What are you waiting for??!” I replied, “Just give me a little more time.” Little did you know I was about to propose to you…
14. How nervous were you that day? You seemed so chill.
I was very nervous. I think I was most nervous about you finding out about the proposal. It was hard to keep secrets from you and have other people in your life keep secrets from you. Then multiple times throughout the day a song would come on and I would tear up thinking about how special our day was going to be.
15. Okay crying again!! Do you remember what you said when you were down on one knee or did you black out too?
No, I said I couldn’t wait any longer. I said I can’t wait to start a family with you. I said your full name, and I asked you very nicely. I said please.
16. How did you feel immediately after?
In one word: relieved. That I didn’t blow it nor did anyone else. You were extremely surprised, you said yes, and that was all that mattered to me. And the sun was out.
17. How does it feel to be engaged??
It feels unbelievable to be engaged to someone who is so special and loving and caring and gorgeous and fun and happy…I can keep going if you want me to keep going…
For the sake of our readers, I’ll cut you off. However, I love you!
I hope you enjoyed our mini fiancé Q&A. I’m so grateful for this space to go deeper with the details. Thank you all for your kind words, emails, and comments. We feel so loved.
Back next week as a 28-year-old!
Love,
Hailee (Beau)
